  • Y6 WIMBLEDON FAITH TRAIL

    Wed 18 Oct 2023 Year 6

On Wednesday 18th October, Y6 went on their second Faith Trail in the local area; this time to Wimbledon Parkside. We visited St Paul's Church and the Buddhapadipa Temple. Unfortunately, we could not visit the synagogue but we are remembering in our thoughts or prayers all those affected by the troubles in the

    Middle East.

Here are some of our comments about the visits:

‘The Buddhist Temple had a lot of interesting  pictures of Buddha and the monks told us the meanings behind the paintings. The Faith Trail is a fun way to learn about different religions.’ - Dior

‘I enjoyed hearing the stories about the Buddha and looking at the different monuments in the Temple. On the Faith Trail, you get to learn different stories about different worship.’ - Tahlia

‘The Temple had a beautiful exterior as well as a lovely painting of the Buddha's timeline inside.’ - Jaian

‘St Paul's Church was really big compared to All Saints'. The people there were very kind and we got to meet Reverend Susan's cute dog, Hazel.’ -  Georgia

‘The church was interesting as it fascinated me how

detailed the carved gold figures were (you can see a little of them in the photo).’ - Matthew

‘I liked the windows in the church, as they told stories. They gave us a card with Norman's painting of the church on it.’ - Vinnie

  • MENTAL HEALTH DAY

    Tue 10 Oct 2023 Nursery

On Tuesday the whole school marked World Mental Health Day.  In Nursery we talked about the way we feel and the importance of voicing our feelings. We then had to choose a feeling form the board and explain why we feel this way. To relax ourselves after a busy morning and lunchtime play we had meditation and cosmic yoga.

  • Y6 TRIP TO EAST SHEEN AIR RAID SHELTER

    Wed 13 Sep 2023 Year 6

‘On Wednesday 13th September, we went to a local air raid shelter at St Leonard’s Court, in East Sheen. We first went to Mortlake to watch a short film about a 103 year old man called Leslie who had experienced the war with his wife and baby daughter. Leslie sadly passed shortly after the film was made.’ Dior—Y6

‘After the film was finished, we saw a PowerPoint where we saw where the bombs were hit and we learned that they wanted to destroy Hammersmith Bridge (but missed) and a Vauxhall car company which was making airplane parts (but missed, they hit a graveyard).  They followed the shine of the moon on the River Thames to locate houses in the dark.’ Matthew—Y6

‘The Germans used a plane called Luftwaffe (Luft means Air and Waffe means Power). It stands for Air Power. In 1940 The Blitz started. The reason why Hitler bombed England was because he wanted to rule England so he bombed food shelters and airports but he failed in the end.’ Yanna—Y6

‘The air raid shelter was used to hide the residents of St Leonard’s Court from the bombs that came from the German planes. There were 83 flats and 48 bunk beds in the entire air raid shelter.’ Joseph—Y6

‘When we arrived at the air raid shelter, we headed straight down the stairs and   into the female day room. The walls were painted with lime-wash. At the back, we found two chemical toilets and an escape hatch. In the male night room, there were 24 bunk beds and there was a piece of a cloth which had been there for 80 years.’ Vinnie—Y6

‘Outside it looks like very beautiful, it had like grass and bushes. The 4 hatches were closed because children tried to get in. The hatches were used for escaping in case of a fire or emergency.’  Alex I—Y6

‘When the class went to the air raid shelter yesterday, it felt like I was walking into history.’ Georgia—Y6

  • All Saints' visit the Houses of Parliament

Thu 10 Aug 2023 Ms Sharp

All Saints’ Y6 (nearly Y7) representatives filming at the Houses of Parliament today as part of the campaign for U.K. Parliament Week - look out for us in the promotional film!  We also bumped into Jeremy Corbyn MP who was lovely and very interested in us and what we were doing.

  • Y3’s Report on their VR Workshop

    Sat 10 Jun 2023

Everyone wrote their own reports—we have taken bits from several of them:

Today we had a VR Workshop which is when you put on goggles and they took us back to Ancient Rome and we saw the animals they used for gladiator fights. Then we saw the inside of the Colosseum and the people were actually moving!

The workshop was fun but some things could be scary.  In the VR we were floating in the air, it was like you were going to fall.  Loads of people were screaming! We saw rich people’s houses, they had beautiful mosaics on the floor—all different colours like red, blue, brown and orange.  My favourite part was when we were in mid-air and we were going around a volcano.

The VR workshop was one of the best workshops I have ever had. We looked at what Rome looks like today and how it looked when the Romans were there.

After that we saw what a poor person’s house looked like. A poor person is called a plebeian and the rich people were called patricians.

Thank you to all the teachers who organised this special workshop and thank you to the company with the headsets and all your hard work coming to All Saints’.

  • Y6 TRIP TO TWICKENHAM BEEKEEPERS

    Fri 09 Jun 2023

On Wednesday the 7th Y6 went to the Twickenham Beekeepers Apiary and then we split into two groups.  The first group went out to see the bees and hives and the second group stayed inside. In the second group we learnt about how bees pollinate plants. They land on the plant, feed on the nectar and then subsequently rub on the stamen catching the pollen on their sticky legs; then when they visit the next plant the pollen comes off onto the stigma fertilising it. Did you know that females are the worker bees and the males are called the drones? To make a queen bee, the workers feed the female larvae royal jelly which is made from pollen and a secretion from their heads.  In the first group, they got to see the honeycomb, the queen bee and they also got to hold the male drones.   The queen bee had a tiny dot on her so we would know where she would be.  It was a great trip - one of the best we’ve ever been on! The male drones were very cute and lots of us overcame our fears!  By Xanthe, Lyra & Emily—Y6

We also had the chance for a photo-op at a famous place—do you recognise it??

  • Y3 trip to Fulham Palace

    Fri 02 Jun 2023

Year 3 went to Fulham Palace and discovered lots of new things about the Romans. Did you know in Roman times that Fulham was in the countryside? Fulham Palace itself was originally a Roman villa. We looked at different artefacts and tried to decide what they were. We even saw a dog footprint from 208AD. We looked at different rooms in a Roman villa including a new word we didn't know: a lararium (a shrine)! We then got to dress up as different Roman characters and create a short play to show everyone. We then had a visit around the museum and learned so many facts about Fulham Palace itself - including that Queen Elizabeth I had dinner in the Great Hall!

I liked when we performed - we got to dress up as different characters and make a short play to show everyone - Eliza

I loved looking at the blueprint of the Roman House - Skye

It was interesting to see the different patterns on the artefacts we looked at and use our detective skills - Tanvi

It was amazing to see the skeleton of a dog in the museum that was found on a previous All Saints' trip in 2017! Sapphire

I learned that Fulham Palace was a place where Bishops used to live - William S
