The Code Show was really fun. I loved how we could play all the different old games - my favourite was Minecraft. Luca and I liked the variety of games that I had never seen before - quite   different to modern day. By Kiki—Y4

  • Nursery visit Kew Gardens

    Wed 16 Mar 2022

"We went to Kew Gardens. Going on the coach was my favourite part.    Charlotte asked us to find treasures under the trees. I tried to climb the big climbing frame. I didn’t like the rain, my hair got soaked. We were looking at the eating plants that swallow flies.” Theo—Nursery

“We went with the bus to Kew Gardens. We were looking at plants that trap flies. I was trying to go on the trampoline. It was my favourite lunch. We were talking about acorn and looking at    flowers. We put the helicopter leaf up in the air and it spinned.”  Lura—Nursery

“I like learning about the plants. It was so rainy! We had lunch with Gabriel and  Lura. I enjoyed having lunch. I liked going on the coach with Theo.” Dylan—Nursery

  • Reception visit Kew Gardens

    Wed 16 Mar 2022

On Wednesday we visited Kew Gardens with Nursery. We were very excited to travel on the coach and we particularly enjoyed that Reception got to sit at the top! We had a great view of lots of landmarks on our journey.

While we were at Kew we visited The Hive, had an educational session with two Kew Gardens teachers about Growing and visited the Children's Gardens. We also got to have our lunch inside a giant teepee tent. The weather was very rainy all day but we didn't mind! In the children's garden there are 4 metal slides which we really enjoyed and the rain made us travel down them even faster! We were all very sensible and we were so lucky to have lots of extra adults helping us. Thank you very much to all the parent helpers who helped to keep us safe on our trip!

Here are some things we have learnt and enjoyed from our trip:

"Acorns make Oak trees." - Joshua

"Pine cones are seeds." - Cordelia

"If you pick a flower out it will stop growing forever." - Arthur

"We saw a squirrel who wanted hundreds of acorns!" - Finn

"The roots are under the flower." - Chimdike

"Roots suck up water and keep the plant straight." - Arabella

"Nutrients can also be turned into air by the plants and tree's leaves." - Bertie

"Trees are big plants." - Hugo

"I liked all the flowers because they were so beautiful." - Wanda

  • Y3 & Y4 visit Thames Explorer

    Thu 03 Mar 2022

As part of our topic on Rivers, Y3 and Y4 got to get out in the fresh air for the day at ‘Thames Explorer Trust’ in Chiswick. The children took part in a fascinating activity ‘Foreshore fieldwork’ where at low tide the children  took part in river dipping, and had the chance to discover first-hand what lives in the river by collecting, identifying and observing fish and invertebrates. The children were fascinated by the various artefacts and living things they were able to collect in their nets along the river bank, the children found many living things including lots of leeches and fresh water shrimp. Amongst the wriggly creatures we also found an old Victorian pipe that we thought to be around 200 years old! The children carried out an experiment to find out ‘How Clean Is the Thames today?’ - the children used indicator paper to test this and many of them were surprised to find out that the result did not match up to their predictions!  By Miss Lake

“I found out that the water is actually quite fresh because the PH level was number 6 which was light green  and I found so many fresh water shrimp, and if the water was dirty they wouldn’t be able to survive!”  By Ralph—Y3

When we went to river Thames with Y3 we started walking to the pier, when we got there we looked  at the features of the river. Then we went to the foreshore and found different animals like the fresh water shrimp  and leech .  One group found a pink shrimp in a little pond.  We tested with a dog biscuit the flow and speed of the river. It was a very fun, exciting day and we found out that the River Thames is really clean! By Darcey & Caroline—Y4

  • Y5 & Y6 visit Kew Gardens

    Tue 01 Mar 2022

This week Y5 and Y6 went on a trip to Kew Gardens. We went to learn about the rainforest as it is our topic this term. We walked around the gardens and visited different places, such as: Kew Palace, The Ice House and the Bee Hive (We all did a waggle dance pretending to be bees).  We then had a fun workshop where we learnt about the different plants and trees that you could find in the rainforest. This includes different types of bananas, sugar cane,   cocoa beans and even the stinky foot plant!

We then learnt about how the rainforest and its plants impact our everyday lives. This includes seeing what products in our supermarkets come from the rainforest as well as playing with different spices, foods, musical instruments and artefacts. We both had a really fun time, despite the rain and the large amount of walking. We learnt a lot!  By Edward & Amelie—Y5

On Tuesday the 1st of March, Y5 and Y6 went to Kew Gardens; in this picture some Y6 students are learning about and tasting spices. We also learnt about what things are grown in the rainforests and how you can survive. There were so many things we discovered on this trip and we would definitely recommend it to any people that are looking for places to go.   By Cooper—Y6
