On Saturday evening we took part in the Swimming gala. Children from Y4,Y5 and Y6 represented the school in both individual and relay events. We had loads of fun and enjoyed cheering on our friends and representing the school. We did much better than thought and through lots of high place finishes the girls squad came 2nd overall and by 1 point the boys won the entire boys competition! We would like to thank the teachers and parents, especially Simon Oddie, Daniel Hardiman and Mrs Haxton-Bartlett.
Before half-term, Y5 travelled to Hooke Court in Dorset for a week’s residential. Activities ranged from team bonding to tribal kingdom day. We learnt that whilst in a team it is important to work together and listen to everyone’s ideas. Team work makes the dream work and we saw that every day. WWI day was by far our favourite day because we learnt to understand and experience what life was like in the trenches. This included cooking food from WWI, training as a soldier and then walking through the trenches. The mud was thick and covered everyone. We even had a 2 minute silence where thanks to the activities we were able appreciate what they had been through and then planted our poppies. All 5 days were fantastic and even just being in our rooms, on the coach and singing songs added to the experience. Most of us didn’t want to leave and already miss being in the rain, sun and mud with our class. Overall, this was the best trip we have ever done and we have made new friendship and memories for life.

‘Year 1 and Year 2 went to Windsor Castle. It was very busy. When we got there we had a look inside Windsor Castle and saw lots of cool things. There was knight's amour and a Kings bed.’ By Katie—Y1
‘We saw lots of soldiers in red uniform.’ By Hussein—Y1
‘In the workshop, we saw a model of the castle and most of us had a acting role. I pretended to be a solider trying to attack the castle. I tried to throw arrows through the 'arrowslits'.’ By Henry—Y1
‘My favourite part of the trip was seeing the royal standard flag flying over Windsor Castle because then we knew the Queen was in.’ By Mary & Katie—Y1
Following the Dance Workshops which the children so enjoyed on Tuesday, and lots of practice over the week, all the classes got a chance to show what they had learnt this afternoon when they performed their dances to each other. It was a very happy session and lots of dancing talent has been discovered! We are looking at how we can give parents a chance to see some of the great dancing we enjoyed!
Our day started with a wonderful Celebration Assembly; not only did we do our usual certificates and teampoints, but we were treated to an excellent presentation on the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. Each class had thought hard about significant events from their decade, about the fashion, the music and the people. We were reminded the Queen’s reign has seen some astonishing changes in how we live and how rich and diverse culture we have.
We so enjoyed our whole school Jubilee lunch—thank you to Rose and the kitchen staff for providing the special menu, including delicious cake! We also enjoyed singing both ‘Sing’ and then of course the National Anthem—which was also signed by Year 6. Our thanks to Rev’d Daniel who came and led us in this prayer of thanks for the Queen) and said a grace before we enjoyed our lunch together.
A Prayer for her Majesty the Queen
Gracious God, we give you thanks
For the reign of your servant Elizabeth our Queen,
And for the example of loving and faithful service which she has shown among us.
Help us to follow her example of dedication
And to commit our lives to you and to one another,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
