Welcome to Y6 - Redwood!

The Y6 class teacher is Ms Janet Sharp and we are extremely lucky to be supported in our learning by Mrs Colleen McGrath and Ms Lucy Howard.

This year the class are working diligently on the final year of their primary education and on preparing themselves for secondary school. In spite of the pressures of SATs’ preparation and taking external entrance examinations, we aim to offer a broad, balanced and creative curriculum to ensure that the children move into the wider world as fully-rounded, responsible citizens. All the staff is united in trying to ensure that the children are successfully fulfilling their potential and growing in self-confidence. Year 6 have many positions of responsibility around the school, from House Captains, to Digital Leaders, to Worship Support and corridor monitors.

We see communication between home and school as being essential to the children’s learning. While this site helps, please feel assured that you can communicate with us at any time; the best way to do this is via email to the school office.

Our Topic Web will be updated each term to show the learning sequence and enrichment activities for that period. We love our trips and workshops in Year 6, as these enrich so much of our learning, so please look out for separate letters and advice about these.

Y6 Homework

As for last year, the majority of Year 6 Homework will be set online via our Purple Mash platform. The blog that sets the homework usually goes “live” on Tuesday and children are to complete the tasks by the following Monday. Work is sometimes set that involves the children bringing a completed sheet of research/a fact-file into school. We appreciate and see parent’s support of their children as being very positive (but would ask that you let us know if any help has been given). We encourage pupils’ originality and creativity in their learning, including homework. A Home Learning Project will be set in the Spring and Summer terms.
