All Saints’ Church of England Primary School Putney

Rooted in Faith, Growing through Learning

Godly Play

In addition to our curriculum based teaching on Religious Education, All Saints’ provides further opportunities for pupils to develop their experience, knowledge and understanding of the Christian Faith through the delivery of Godly Play sessions.

Godly Play is a creative, imaginative and spiritually rich approach to the nurturing of faith.  It is based on the telling of stories from the Bible and uses beautifully made objects, symbols and religious language to enhance the meaning and messages of both Old and New Testament stories.   Through ‘I wonder’ questions and open-ended response time, Godly Play can help children see and think about things differently – an approach which enhances the already well-rounded and inclusive RE curriculum.

Stories are taught to year groups from Y2 upwards, either in school or in the Godly Play room at St Mary’s Church.  These sessions are led by the Vicar or by one of our Governors, who is an experienced Godly Play teacher.
